Dr. Isher Judge Ahluwalia, renowned Indian economist, writer, columnist, Chairperson of Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), Delhi and also the former chairperson of the high-powered expert Committee on Urban Infrastructure and Services wrote an article headlined, “Ripples of Reform in Dhaka’’ on the renowned daily Indian Express on 27 June, 2018. The article heading also said, `Bangladesh capital’s transformation of the water services sector that connects the urban poor to the piped network, has lessons for cities in India.’
Dr. Isher praised Dhaka WASA and its leadership. At the same time she compared various Indian cities, which lack required water supply services, to Dhaka and said that there were lessons from Dhaka for cities in India.
It may be noted, all the successes came in Dhaka WASA under its turnaround programmes led by the Managing Director include introducing District Metering Areas (DMA) reducing system loss up to 2-14 per cent by changing old pipelines, computerization of its entire database, increasing revenue and others.
